Kia Motors Clinches Top Spot in J.D. Power’s 2020 Initial Quality StudyJun 26th, 2020
Earlier this month, J.D. Power released their prestigious 2020 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). The yearly study examines problems experienced by owners of new vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. For the sixth consecutive year Kia find its way to the top of the chart as a mass-market brand.
“Returning to number one in the industry and the top of J.D. Power’s U.S. Initial Quality Study among all mass-market brands for the sixth consecutive year is an enormous honor and a reminder to keep striving to be the best we can be,” said Sean Yoon, president & CEO, Kia Motors North America & Kia Motors America.
The study measures components that fail and features that are difficult to use, hard to understand or don’t work the way owners want says J.D. Power meaning that Kia owners reported fewest quality issues within the first 90 days of ownership.
Kia Motors also received four other awards. Indeed, four Kia models were ranked the highest in their respective segments: the Kia Forte, Kia Sedona, Kia Sorento, and Kia Soul.
“With 4 segment winners – and 4 additional models ranking among the top three in their respective segments – Kia’s ‘Give It Everything’ brand philosophy continues to bear fruit in the extremely competitive automotive market,” added Yoon.
This year’s Initial Quality Study was redesigned and marks its fifth generation. It analyzed answers from 87,282 respondents which were driving 189 vehicles across 26 different segments. Each respondent filled a 223-question form structured into nine different vehicle categories: infotainment; features, controls and displays; exterior; driving assistance (new for 2020); interior; powertrain; seats; driving experience; and climate.
